Antique Apple Orchard Maintenance Workshop
In partnership with the National Park Service and MSU Extension, the Leelanau Conservation District would like to invite you to the Antique Apple Orchard Maintenance Workshop on May 2nd in the Port Oneida Rural Historic District. The day will begin at 10:00am at the Kelderhouse Farm with a grafting demonstration along with transplanting trees from the park’s apple nursery. The day will continue at 1:00pm at the Schmidt Farm and will focus on orchard maintenance—how to identify and properly remove dead materials from abandoned trees; proper pruning of the canopy for optimum maintenance and fruit production; maintaining tree health; how to maintain ground cover beneath the tree; watering and care of the tree; and, equipment safety.
