Our History
The Leelanau Conservation District was organized in 1943. That year 131 farmers started conservation practices. The total income was $100.00 from the county Board of Supervisors. In 2007, we provided services to over 3000 adults and over 800 students. With no paid staff until 1968, the district now has four employees: Executive Director Buzz Long, Erosion Control Officer Steve Christensen, District Forester Molly Cypher and Administrative Assistant Susan Cordes.
